It’s a long way from Waubay, South Dakota to the western Pacific Ocean, but that’s a journey Hayden Niles is taking.
Niles, who attends the University of Hawaii at Hilo, was selected as one of 14 interns to join the Nautilus exploration ship on a three-week expedition. There were hundreds of applicants for the internships.
The three-week expedition in July and August will explore deep-sea habitats around the Marshall Islands using the ship’s mapping tools.
