SCOUTING REPORT | Watertown library legacy, Pierre's academic scores, single mothers, USD law milestone
A weekly digest of interesting local, state, national and even international developments
It wasn’t unusual for the Watertown Regional Library to receive small donations in the mail this spring supporting its summer reading program. But one check stood out. It was for $96,000.
“We just opened the mail one day and got a very nice surprise,” library Director Maria Gruener told The Watertown Current.
The donation had come from the estate of Kent Hegstrom, a regular library patron who had died in February at the age of 74. Hegstrom’s gift was a complete surprise and happened to arrive right before the library’s board meeting. It also came without conditions on the use of the funds. Hegstrom’s donation was deposited in the library’s endowment.
