As a child, Tim Czmowski remembers visiting his aunt and her sister, Alice Simonson, in Day County. The women were of Norwegian descent, which meant they liked lutefisk. Of course, they wanted him to partake of the pungent dried white fish concoction, which he wasn’t keen on.

“As a little kid, I was like, ‘What is that,’” Czmowski told The Dakota Scout.

Many moons have passed since those forced lutefisk feeds. Today, Czmowski is in the South Dakota Legislature and Simonson is thought to be the oldest South Dakota resident alive.
