We start this week with an update on a report from last spring about a lighting problem at the Aberdeen Regional Airport. Specifically, on one of the airport runways.

New lights were part of a $3 million improvement project completed on the runway in 2023. But the lights have gone out with frequency since – officials figure at an 85 percent failure rate. A local electric company was called out to replace them numerous times because if two lights go out on the same runway, it has to be closed for aviation traffic.

But Aberdeen Transportation Director Rich Krokel is hopeful the problem has finally been solved, reports The Aberdeen Insider. The airport has bought 85 new lights and installed 21 as part of a trial run to see if the electrical gremlin can be chased away with the switch.
