The North American Box Office gross, year to date, is off by a billion dollars compared to a year ago, and the predictions are this will be Hollywood’s worst year in decades.
In a sign that the end of the superhero era is fast approaching, Disney head Bob Iger said the company will limit the output of Marvel films to “two good films, at most three” a year and also cut the number of TV spinoffs from the franchise. Meanwhile, sequels to library films will increase with Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5 both due for release soon. Iger went on to say that “there’s a lot of value in sequels” since the properties are well known and require less marketing.
