A South Dakota inmate who demanded a diet based on the tenants of his Satanic religion has had his lawsuit against the state tossed.

Matthew Carter sued the Department of Corrections and various DOC employees in 2022 after he was refused a Satanic Bible and a diet based on his professed religion of Satanism. He also sued Aramark Correctional Services and Summit Food Services, both of which had contracts to provide prison meals during his time at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

On Friday, Federal District Court Judge Roberto Lange dismissed the suit against Aramark, the last remaining defendant. Lange had already dismissed the case against the other defendants earlier this year.
