Sanford Health did not know that a house that it bought in central Sioux Falls in 2010 was on the National Register of Historic Places until last year, an official with the hospital system said Wednesday.

The house at 628 W. 20th St., near Sanford’s medical center, was designed by famed Sioux Falls architect Wallace L. Dow. It was placed on the register in 2000 after its then-owner made the application. The house, which was built in 1898, changed hands a few times before Sanford purchased it through an affiliated company.
