A Ronald McDonald House is coming to Rapid City, marking the nonprofit’s first expansion into western South Dakota and offering a lifeline to families with children receiving medical treatment far from home.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota (RMHC-SD) announced plans to build the new facility just blocks from Monument Health’s main campus. The 12-bedroom house will provide free lodging, meals and support to families of hospitalized children, with construction slated to begin in September and an opening expected by late 2026.

“Since 1983, more than 6,400 West River families have spent over 34,000 nights at our Sioux Falls locations,” RMHC-SD said in a statement. “Now, we are expanding our capacity to help even more families.”
