Richard “Rick” LeRoy Feller, 72, of Lennox, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at the Sioux Falls VA Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Visitation was from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. His memorial Mass was at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at St. Therese Catholic Church, with interment following at South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls. In lieu of flowers consider contributions to the family.
Rick was born on Dec. 30, 1953, in Mitchell as the youngest of eight children to Andrew and Lilla (Carroll) Feller. He grew up in Howard with his siblings by his side and lots of cousins around. Large family gatherings were more tolerable with his favorite cousin, Simon, around. Rick graduated from Howard High School in 1972.
Rick was proud to have served in the Army as an intelligence analyst from 1978 to 1981 and in the Army Reserves until 1984. Rick worked many jobs throughout his life and loved playing softball and umpiring. He also loved music; even when he couldn’t remember those around him, he could remember the words to his favorite songs.
Rick was married to Janet Miller. From their union, they had two children, Katherine and Eliot, along with bonus daughter Constance, all of whom he loved with all his heart. “My dad did not know how to hold back when he loved someone,” said Katie, a sentiment tearfully agreed to by all.
Rick battled many demons throughout his life and never lost his faith in God. He raised Cain all over the state. He was known to be quite the character with a fantastic sense of humor, teasing, joking and playing pranks on siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and his children. Rick’s smile would spread ear to ear, his chuckle would roll out and you knew his day was made.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Katie (Spencer) Hemphill, Eliot Feller and Constance McIver; his grandchildren, Brodie McIver and Bryher McIver; his brother Dan (Rita) Feller; his sisters Lila Feller and Alice (Myron) Johnson; and his sister-in-law Sharon Feller, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews and a gaggle of cousins
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lilla Feller; his siblings Raymond Charles Feller, Marie and Wally Jacobson, Larry Feller and Kathy Lagge-Roemer; special cousin Simon Carroll; and fiancée Jean Hall.
