Rhoden's Sioux Falls, Rapid City airport funding bill takes flight
But turbulence could await amid pressure to ease property taxes
PIERRE – A proposal by Gov. Larry Rhoden to make zero-interest loans to help airport expansion projects in Sioux Falls and Rapid City cleared its first hurdle Thursday.
Senate Bill 76 allows both the Sioux Falls and Rapid City regional airports to apply for maximum loans of $15 million each. The money would come from a fund that lawmakers and former Gov. Kristi Noem allocated $200 million to finance workforce housing projects.
But with some of that money sitting unused, Rhoden said it would be best to put it to work for the two airports.
