Rhoden says nuclear energy could be regional electricity source

The need for increased electricity to meet future growth should include nuclear energy and the use of small module reactors, the governors of South Dakota and Nebraska said Tuesday.
South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden and Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen held a joint news conference in Dakota Dunes following a tri-state governor’s conference to address issues that the two states and Iowa face. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds did not participate in the press conference. The three governors are Republicans.
Energy production for the region is a major issue, and nuclear energy is a favored source of electricity among some Republicans. That’s particularly true with advancements in technology leading to small module nuclear reactors.
