The 2026 race for Sioux Falls mayor is taking shape with the entry of another familiar civic leader into the increasingly crowded contest.
Former Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc., President Joe Batcheller made it official Tuesday, announcing his candidacy for mayor with a pledge to bring “an independent voice” to City Hall if victorious in next June’s municipal election. And with a decades-long career in urban planning, he told a crowd of supporters and onlookers at a campaign kickoff event in downtown Sioux Falls that he is the person to lead South Dakota’s largest city.
