The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office is getting in on the season of giving.

The Minnehaha County jail will waive a $25 fee that it normally charges in its Walk-in Warrant Program. The fee will be waived for people who show up at the front desk of the jail on Dec. 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 9 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Walk-in Warrant program gives people a chance to resolve outstanding warrants without getting arrested. Warrants are issued for scores of offenses, ranging from people who miss court dates, forget to pay tickets or for petty crimes.

The Walk-in Warrant Program is available to most of those outstanding warrants, including bench warrants, class I and II misdemeanors, possession of controlled substances and civil and criminal child support warrants, and even some class 6 felonies. Not eligible are sex crimes, domestic violence or stalking cases, probation violations or motions to revoke probation. Nor are violent crimes eligible.
