Chronic pain is a squatter that hijacks your body – you must negotiate with it before moving, and it usually says no.

For Carol Dornberger-Blackford, 75, pain has been a constant companion since she was a child. Diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia, she has a long history of broken bones and compromised mobility.

Dornberger-Blackford once broke her foot while running in place in sixth grade. She fractured her leg in four places while running through a parking lot. She had to use crutches and even a wheelchair for a time as a youngster.
