Prison-wary Lincoln County gets another site candidate
Task force receives new proposals — one west of Sioux Falls and one bordering Canton
Lincoln County residents didn’t want a South Dakota men’s prison in their backyard, but the list of 14 proposed sites for a new facility includes four possible locations in the county after another one was announced Monday night.
The new Canton proposal features 218 acres on the west side of the town bordering the south side of Highway 18. Since the site was a late addition, limited details have been released, but the property includes a stream on the south side, which cuts the land into three pieces.
