An illegal immigrant who was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for possessing a backpack with enough fentanyl to kill 500,000 people has lost a bid to have his sentence lowered.

Edwin Salinas argued that Federal Judge Charles Kornmann had imposed a sentence that was too long because Kornmann relied on an enhanced sentence, finding Salinas had obstructed justice.

Kornmann based that decision on a statement Salinas made to Berta Gonzales following his arrest.
