When most people think of a concert artist, they picture hands gliding across grand piano keys. When they imagine a master quilter, they visualize intricate art, color theory and deep design knowledge. Rarely do those two distinct worlds come together in a single performer. Yet for world-renowned artist, composer and quilt designer Ricky Tims, music and textile art serve as two expressions of the exact same creative frequency.
This September, Sioux Falls will experience this rare artistic synthesis firsthand. The Washington Pavilion will host Tims for an extraordinary, two-day residency starting Friday, Sept. 18, presented in partnership with the Sioux Falls Quilters Guild (SFQG). Featuring both his signature two-day educational workshop, Quilt Luminarium, and an evening concert performance, the event promises to be one of the region’s most inspiring cultural gatherings of the year.
