For the first time in years, both east and west commercial air travel is being offered in South Dakota’s capital city.

The first-ever eastbound flight by airline company Denver Air Connection from the Pierre Regional Airport left Thursday afternoon.

“In the coming months we hope to see expanded connections in Minneapolis, which means DAC’s service will be providing the people of the Pierre area quite possibly the largest amount of travel choices available from a regional carrier,” Denver Air Connection Business Development Director Jon Coleman told The Dakota Scout.

Since being awarded the Pierre airport airline contract in 2021 by the United States Department of Transportation, Denver Air’s only destination out of the Pierre airport has been Denver.
