South Dakota’s Secretary of State ascended to the office in 2022 on an election integrity platform that included hand-counting ballots and stricter election audits.
After four years running the state’s electoral and business systems, Republican Secretary of State Monae Johnson has gradually renounced some of her former policies, culminating in her putting her support behind the Democratic candidate in the race for the office — opting not to back the Republican on the ballot.
Johnson publicly endorsed Democratic nominee Terrence Davis’ in the Secretary of State race on Saturday.
