Operation: Prairie Thunder saturates Brookings without city cooperation, notification
South Dakota state trooper deployment planned in December had been delayed after municipality alerted public of crime crackdown
An Operation: Prairie Thunder deployment has taken place in Brookings, weeks after previous plans to conduct saturation patrols there were delayed.
And this time, the city of Brookings was not let in on the state of South Dakota’s plans.
While the Department of Public Safety and the Governor’s Office declined to comment Thursday, The Dakota Scout has confirmed Highway Patrol troopers were in Brookings for a two-day saturation patrol Tuesday and Wednesday as part of Gov. Larry Rhoden’s public safety initiative.
