Kenneth “Ken” Pascoe Johnston and Delores “Dee” Yvonne (Nohr) Johnston will be laid to eternal rest on Oct. 9, 2026, at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Mountrail County, North Dakota.

Kenneth Pascoe Johnston was born May 20, 1923, in St. Louis County, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Arlyn Johnston. He grew up in Kentucky with two brothers, Philip G. and Day S., and two sisters, Jean J. Fetzer and Arlyn J. Metcalfe. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army. He had two sons, Phil and Kenny, with Marjorie Johnston.

Delores Yvonne Nohr was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Redmond Township, Mountrail County, North Dakota, to Harold Jens Nohr and Florence Rosalie Ardella (Gandrud) Nohr. She worked as a grade-school teacher in Stave Township, North Dakota.

Ken and Dee were married on Aug. 17, 1957, in Mountrail County, North Dakota. They made their home for many years in Auburn, Washington, where Ken worked for the postal service and Dee worked as a Tupperware saleswoman. Dee was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who also cared for her parents when they fell into ill health. She was an enthusiastic cook, especially of her favorite recipes from her Scandinavian roots. She enjoyed knitting beautiful Afghan blankets, which she gave as gifts, and was passionate about assembling her family history. In retirement the couple enjoyed extensive travel in their mini motorhome. Ken enjoyed following sports, particularly the hometown Seattle teams, as well as history and gardening. They later lived for a time in Hillsboro, North Dakota, before settling in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. 

Dee died Feb. 1, 2021, in Idaho at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Vernal, who died in childhood. Ken died Dec. 11, 2024. Survivors include Ken’s son Phil; their son, Paul, and his wife, Julie, of Post Falls, Idaho; and granddaughter Amanda (Joshua) Saltzman, of Spokane, Washington; Dee’s brother, Ellwyn Nohr, of Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
