New prison site up for grabs, Gov. Larry Rhoden says
Communities submitting bids while governor says 'all cards on the table'

Mitchell, Huron and Aberdeen have just as much chance to emerge as the site of a new South Dakota State Penitentiary as Sioux Falls, Gov. Larry Rhoden said Wednesday.
A dozen potential sites have emerged since Rhoden reset the conversation about a new prison to replace the current penitentiary in Sioux Falls, the original portions of which were built before statehood.
Everybody’s got the same chance, Rhoden said during a tour of the Healthcare Simulation Center at Southeast Technical College.
