A central Sioux Falls neighborhood block is getting new life thanks to a community effort to transform the space into a public park.

The Sioux Falls School District is also earning praise for providing the land for the project, which will become Lincoln Commons at Ninth Street and Grange Avenue.

Organizers, school officials, and city representatives will mark the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. The site was formerly home to Lincoln Elementary School and had been slated for redevelopment before neighbors pushed to preserve it as a green space.
