Nancy J. Scott, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 5, 2025 in the Brandon Nursing Home.
Nancy was born on October 18, 1943 in Streator, Illinois, to Wayne and Agnes Scott. She grew up in Rapid City, SD, later moving to Sioux Falls and graduating from Cathedral High School in 1961.
When Nancy was 13 years old, she ran away from home and found herself at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds surrounded by horses. From that moment on, she developed a deep love for them. Her favorite horse was named Merriah, and together they won many jumping trophies. Nancy was a 4-H Leader at Bridlewood Stables and worked at Lewis Drug, in the pet department.
Nancy lived on a ranch in Custer, South Dakota, while working at the Mental Health Hospital. She returned to Sioux Falls, where she dedicated 39 years to the VA Hospital, serving as a pharmacy technician. Nancy had a deep love for the Black Hills of South Dakota and enjoyed capturing beauty through photography.
Nancy is survived by sisters: Sheila Buus and Carol Scott, both of Sioux Falls, SD; nephew: Jason (Christy) Buus, their children Joshua and Collin (Whitney) and their son, Asher. She was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Agnes Scott; and niece: Kristine Buus.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025, 10:00 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
