PIERRE – Downtown Pierre is getting a $30 million shot in the arm.

A newly-planned development by Sioux Falls-based Hegg Cos. will bring a new mixed-use campus including lodging, housing and new retail spaces to the state Capitol at Dakota Avenue at the corner of Dakota and Highland Avenues.

“For us with a community of this size, it is a major reinvestment in the community,” said Jared Villhauer, Hegg’s vice president of development and finance. “I can’t think of another development of this scale and this amount of dollars that has been poured into the Pierre community in a long time from the private sector.”
