Missing 14-year-old girl found dead, Sioux Falls police confirm
McKenna Wendel went missing in Sioux Falls nearly a week before her body was recovered Thursday

A missing teenager has been found dead nearly a week after police say she was last seen.
Police in Sioux Falls confirmed Thursday afternoon the recovery of a body identified as 14-year-old McKenna Wendel.
Authorities did not release additional information related to the location or timing of the discovery nor whether the death was deemed suspicious.
“The Sioux Falls Police Department, along with many other resources from the region, will continue to piece together what happened to McKenna,” Lt. Nick Butler said in a statement Thursday, March 19.
Wendel had been missing since Friday, March 13, according to law enforcement. Lt. Aaron Nyberg said Wendel was last known to be in Sioux Falls with a family member.
Butler said police are not seeking assistance from the public in locating any additional subject related to the case, and that no danger is believed to exist to the public.
Authorities declined to release any additional information, but are expected to provide an update to the investigation on Monday.
