Minnehaha County to eliminate affirmative action, diversity committee

Move comes to comply with new presidential executive order banning DEI in federal contracting

Minnehaha County will consider a motion that scraps its affirmative action policies following an executive order signed by President Trump.

That executive order rescinded earlier executive orders in federal contracting and employment that promoted race-based affirmative action programs, and more recently, diversity, equity and inclusion.

DEI programs have come under fire by conservatives who argue they promote racial discrimination. DEI supporters say the programs promote education and populations that have historically been excluded from universities and employment opportunities.
