Sioux Falls school leaders are facing pressure to give student-athletes who play football more leeway in wearing protective gear aimed at reducing concussions.
At a Sioux Falls School District Board of Education meeting Monday, a middle schooler who plays football for a district-sanctioned squad urged the district to allow kids to wear soft, removable helmet covers called Guardian Caps during practices. Proponents of the increasingly popular equipment say they improve safety without voiding helmet warranties.
