Memorial Day weekend: Travel surge expected, ceremonies planned in South Dakota
Fuel prices down, airfare up in latest AAA report
More than a hundred thousand South Dakotans have travel plans for the Memorial Day weekend while a litany of ceremonies honoring fallen service members are on tap in the area for those staying close to home.
The American Automobile Association, more commonly referred to as AAA, is estimating higher travel counts for the upcoming holiday than last year, projecting 157,194 South Dakotans will travel 50 miles or more. That’s an increase of 3.2 percent from 2024, a slightly higher jump than nationwide projections that estimate 3.1 percent more Americans will travel this weekend.
