Mayoral candidates, donors, voters maneuvering ahead of Sioux Falls election
Runoff likely as five candidates make final push before final ballots cast in June 2 contest
Mayoral hopefuls are trading blows, cutting checks and making their final pleas to become the next leader of South Dakota’s largest city.
Less than two weeks ahead of the Sioux Falls municipal elections, momentum, money and coalition-building in a crowded five-person field mean the race likely won’t be settled on Election Day.
The contest to succeed termed-out Mayor Paul TenHaken this summer is not drawing sharp ideological divides among Christine Erickson, Greg Jamison, Jamie Smith, Joe Batcheller and David Zokaites. Instead, the Sioux Falls politicos eyeing the Ninth and Dakota corner office are using their leadership style, coalition strength and governing philosophy to appeal to voters — and special interests before the June 2 election.
