Clarification: LHS is the first high school band in over a decade to be in the Macy’s Day Parade. The South Dakota State University band marched in the parade in 2022.

For the first time in over a decade millions of eyes will watch a South Dakota high school band in the prestigious Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Nov. 28.

The Lincoln High School marching band, 215 strong, will snake down the streets of New York City before hitting the Herald Square star on Thanksgiving Day. It was 2008 that the band last performed in The Big Apple.

How big a deal is it to make the parade’s lineup and then travel to New York City to perform? $1 million big! That’s how much the band raised to participate in the annual parade adored for generations.
