Mail forwarding president says out-of-state voters getting wrong ballots
New law for federal-only ballots was not supposed to apply to people already registered to vote, officials say
Out-of-state voters registered in Minnehaha County are seeing their voter status changed to federal-only voters, the head of a mail forwarding business said Tuesday.
Amber Hobert, the president of DakotaPost, told county commissioners Tuesday that many of her customers are seeing their status changed retroactively. That was not how a new law that established federal-only ballots was supposed to be implemented, she said.
“This is a bit of a concern to us,” she said. “Many of them were already previously registered to vote when this 2025 law change happened, which was not supposed to be being applied retroactively.”
