Lincoln County will ask prison task force to be mindful of county growth plans
Commissioners want any new South Dakota corrections facility built in jurisdiction to conform to local zoning
Lincoln County commissioners voted Tuesday night to send a compromise response to the state’s Prison Reset Task Force after hearing more than an hour of public opposition to proposed prison sites in the county.
The commission’s letter, drafted following a call for public input from task force chairman Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen, states that any new state prison in Lincoln County must comply with the county’s comprehensive growth plans and is the result of a spirited testimony from Lincoln County residents and community leaders alike.
