Lincoln County commissioners on Tuesday approved a proactive outreach effort to inform veterans about property tax exemptions while also authorizing the publication of the county's provisional budget for a September public hearing.

Veteran Service Officer David Ekle will contact 110 veterans who may qualify for disabled veteran or paraplegic property tax exemptions but have not yet applied for them. Commissioner Joel Arends spearheaded the initiative after learning the county maintains a list of potentially eligible veterans.
