A regional pharmacy and retail chain recently purchased by Sanford Health is phasing out all tobacco and nicotine sales.
However, Lewis Drug’s decision to no longer carry products like cigarettes, chewing tobacco, vapes and other nicotine products is not the result of last year’s buyout of the store by the Sioux Falls-based health care system.
That’s according to a spokesman for Lewis Drug, who said this week that there had been internal discussions for “a couple of years,” leading up to the decision to start pulling tobacco and nicotine inventory from its shelves in February.
