Lewis Drug faces lawsuits over data breach
Plaintiffs seeking class action status over March ransomware attack
Several people have filed multiple lawsuits against Lewis Drug following an alleged data breach this month that compromised private medical information.
The lawsuits seek class action status for Lewis’ customers and others who use the pharmacies in dozens of stores located in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
The data breach allegedly occurred on March 3. A ransomware group known as AliLock announced that it had succeeded in breaching Lewis’ IT network where it obtained 110 gigabytes of data. The data, the lawsuits allege, included customer names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, contact information and confidential medical information.
