LETTER | Trump's leadership during America 250 ironic — at best

It seems ironic that next July 4, 2026, we will be celebrating our 250th anniversary of this democracy while we have a president who is trying to change it to an authoritarian or dictatorship form of government. Instead of three branches of government — legislative, executive and judiciary — we now have only the executive branch as Trump is controlling all three branches. Now Trump wants to control the free press so that the only news we see or hear is what he wants the people to see and hear.

Trump is trying to make a martyr of Charlie Kirk, who stated on July 13, 2023, that black women didn’t have the brain processing power to be taken seriously. He stated they have to go steal a white person’s slot. He also said on July 18, 2024, “If I see a black pilot, I hope he is qualified.” On Aug. 18, 2024, Kirk called passing the Civil Rights Act a huge mistake. Only a racist would make comments like that.
