LETTER | Statue garden shouldn't go anywhere near Mount Rushmore

I recently read your "Viewpoint" in The Dakota Scout (July 11, 2025), and I feel compelled to respond. While I respect your right to share your opinions, I was deeply disappointed by certain aspects of your piece.
To be clear, I don’t take issue with the idea of establishing a statue garden honoring American heroes. That said, placing it near Mount Rushmore on land that remains contested by the Dakota people is a complex matter that deserves careful consideration and respectful dialogue.
