Editor’s note: This letter was written as an open letter to Gov. Larry Rhoden.
My reason for writing to you concerns Briley Piper, who is sentenced to die in prison.
I have written previously in letters to editors asking you to reconsider and change his sentence from death to life without parole.
I also understand this is an election year and any decision you make may determine the outcome of the governor’s race. There could be political ramifications for or against you.
I have been in contact with Mo Irvine, who serves as a prison minister through the Catholic Church. I have also had contact with Deacon Tim and Julie Dickes, who also have a prison ministry. We met them when our son, Richard, was in prison. And I know Father Jeff Norfolk from St. Joseph’s Cathedral, who has served in prison ministry and speaks highly of Briley Piper. They all do.
