LETTER | Congress offers no guardrails on Trump

Six months into President Trump’s second term and frustration is mounting. Protests are increasing because of Trump’s policies, South Dakota congressional delegation’s acquiescence and concerns about Sioux Falls’ “complicity” with Prairie Thunder. At least in terms of immigration, the 2024 election turned on taking firm action to secure the border and deport the criminal element. But who envisioned what we’re seeing – gestapo demeanor and tactics with seemingly complete disregard for human decency and due process?
But back to Trump. The election focused on two issues – immigration and the economy. And related to the economy with the on again/off again, ever-changing tariff landscape, I was struck by a recent quote: “The main thing is that trade should not be a weapon," one speaker insisted. "The United States has become an incredibly important country starting from nothing 250 years ago – there’s never been anything like it. And it’s a big mistake when you have 7.5 billion people who increasingly don’t like you very well and you have 300 million people crowing about how well they’ve done.” The speaker? That radical leftist, Warren Buffet!
