A Lemmon woman is getting a boost from the state to keep northwest South Dakota from becoming a food desert.

The South Dakota Board of Economic Development has signed off on a loan of more than a half million dollars that will aid the purchase of the Lemmon IGA grocery store by longtime store manager Stefanie Dauwen.

Dauwen, who’s been with the store for more than two decades, is transitioning into ownership of the store and has plans to grow store operations and add 10 new full-time positions.
