PIERRE — It’s a tradition started by Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan. When the former journalist turned lawman worked for the South Dakota Broadcasters Association (SDBA), he always asked the governor and legislative leadership for a Super Bowl prediction during the weekly press conference before the nation’s largest annual sporting event.

This year, The Dakota Scout’s Austin Goss — who also does contract work during session for SDBA — posed that question to new Gov. Larry Rhoden and Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen. Goss and Jonathan Ellis asked other legislative leaders for their predictions. Who will prevail in the clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs? And what will the final score be?

In honor of Callahan, here’s what they said.
