Jon Youngberg, age 85 of Wasilla, AK, and formerly of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in Wasilla, AK after a brief stay in hospice, with the comfort of a life well lived. The family will be present for Visitation on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 PM at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.
Jon W. Youngberg was born in Onida, SD to Mason and Gladys (Serbousek) Youngberg. He attended grade school in Onida and graduated from High School in Pierre, SD in 1958. Jon enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard on February 20, 1960 in Pierre, SD. Jon was a past member of the Moose Lodge, and a member of the Senior Center in Madison, SD. Since his retirement, Jon drove school bus for over 10 years in Sioux Falls, SD. He was also a Sr. Companion for fourteen years and also received Volunteer of the Year. He loved his dog, Pierre.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Steve of Wasilla, AK; Steve’s children: Ashley (Andy) Brinkman and their children, Veda and Tovi; Jordan (Ann) Youngberg and their children, Russell, Blake, and Max; Michaela Youngberg; and Tristan (Alyx) Youngberg; and his daughter-in-law, Jen, wife of his late son Mike, who preceded him in death after a courageous battle with cancer; along with Mike and Jen’s children: Ty (Ashley) Youngberg and their children, Finn and Presley; Rylee Youngberg; and Sydney Youngberg. Being a grandpa and great-grandpa meant the world to him, and he thought his great-grandkids were pretty darn special.
Jon was rarely seen without his loyal sidekick, Pierre, his beloved mini poodle. He will be remembered for his gift of gab and the laughter he brought to every gathering. His presence, humor, and love will be missed by so many.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Gladys (Serbousek) Youngberg; his son, Michael Youngberg; brothers, Eugene, Quentin, and Joe Youngberg; and his sister, Helen Stahl.
