Property tax relief is shaping up to be a major issue in the Republican primary for governor, with Rep. Dusty Johnson releasing his proposal on how to reduce those taxes this week.
Johnson’s plan follows on ideas floated by Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden, House Speaker Jon Hansen and Gov. Larry Rhoden. They also come a few days before Rhoden delivers his State-of-the-State address on Jan. 13, a speech where Rhoden is expected to delve into details about his proposal to allow counties to add an optional sales tax to offset property tax revenue.
