John Benjamin ‘JB’ DeCory, II, 82, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away surrounded by family at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026.
John Benjamin ‘JB’ DeCory was born March 29, 1944, to Franklin & Beulah (Bishop) DeCory in Rosebud, SD. He lived in Rosebud and attended Oglala High School, where he lettered in golf. He moved to Aberdeen in 1960. He was a cowboy who worked on several ranches in South Dakota. In 1962, JB joined the Navy with his brother Frank. He traveled all over the Far East during his time in the service. In the mid 60’s, JB moved to Houston, TX. He loved traveling, including to Montana and California. He was a trucker with five and a half million miles under his belt. In the 90’s he moved back to Aberdeen.
JB was a member of the VFW. He loved going to casinos and playing pool at the R&A Bar. In his younger years, he went pheasant hunting with his dad and brothers. JB was proud of his family, his siblings and all his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Sicangu Lakota Tribe of Rosebud, SD.
Grateful for having shared JB’s life are his daughter Tamera (Craig) Harvey, of Florida; grandchildren: Sterling and Hunter Harvey; siblings: Myrtle DeCory, Frank DeCory, and Beulah ‘BG’ DeCory; nephews: David Gallipo, Mike Richter, Stevie Spotted Bear, and David DeCory; nieces: KayLyn (Sid) Eisenbeize, Michael Ann DeCory, Nikki Smith and Mary DeCory; great-nieces and nephews: Lisa, Jeremy, Travis DeCory, Jeremiah, Kena, and Dana Spotted Bear, Bella Smith, David DeCory; and one great-great-nephew, David DeCory; and brother-in-law Doug Hubbell.
Preceding JB in death are his parents Franklin & Beulah DeCory; sister Marlys DeCory; sister-in-law Lauren Ann DeCory; and nephews Tim DeCory, Greg Gallipo, and Randy Sloan.
