Former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner made an unexpected stop in downtown Sioux Falls this week as he wrapped up a seven-week road trip across North America.

Boehner was spotted here Thursday with longtime political consultant John Milne, whose late wife, Debra Anderson, was the first woman to serve as speaker of the South Dakota House of Representatives. The pair ran into Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen, who was out celebrating his wedding anniversary.

“Who do we see walk in and have a seat? Speaker Boehner,” Venhuizen told The Dakota Scout on Friday.
