James R. (Jim) Heath, aged 82, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. Born on March 27, 1943, in Chamberlain, South Dakota, to Ben and Regina (Blasius) Heath, Jim was a hard-working man, a friend one could count on, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Skilled in many areas, Jim had a rich working life in South Dakota and Wyoming. He held a variety of positions at Black Hills Glass and Mirror in both Rapid City, South Dakota and Gillette, Wyoming. Additionally, he was employed by Campbell County (Wyoming) as manager of its fairgrounds and oversaw its transition to the Cam-Plex events center. He also served as a Wyoming state brand inspector.
A cowboy at heart, Jim was at his happiest riding and tending to horses and was a competitive team roper, earning numerous championship buckles, He very much enjoyed the company of family and friends, especially Friday night pizza and beer with all who could make it. Above all, Jim loved, cared for, and took great pride in his family.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years Hannah (Parker). Together they had three daughters, Veronica Durand (Frank), Christine Chesser (Jack), and Valerie Kettrey (Robert). They were blessed with grandchildren Callie Kinzer, Andrew Durand, and Haley Lupher, step-grandchildren Bob and Scott Kettrey, and great grandchildren Emmaline, Eloise, and Heath Kinzer, and Margot Lupher. He is also survived by his brother, August Heath. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Lloyd and Lyle Heath.
Jim’s legacy is one of strength, dependability, and kindness to those around him. A memorial service will take place Wednesday, September 17, 2025, 11 a.m., at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City. Kirk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
