Hundreds turned out Saturday to honor the legacy of T. Denny Sanford, who was remembered as a man of energy who enjoyed life, solving business challenges and giving.
A man who could dance through the night at the Carnival in Brazil – as his sons Scott and Bill recalled – or go hurtling down a ski slope in Colorado – as business partners Dana Dykhouse and Miles Beacom recalled – was also a man who cared deeply about his city, state and the world. He was also a loving father and grandfather, his sons said.
Sanford, who died July 18, gave nearly $4 billion over the course of his lifetime to a variety of causes. In South Dakota alone, Sanford gave $2.5 billion. Dozens of organizations in the state received donations of $1 million or more, Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen said.
