A group of property owners in Harrisburg have put the city on notice that they are challenging its special assessments that were part of their 2024 tax bills.

The nearly one dozen property owners include some of the biggest taxpayers in the city. In a notice sent Wednesday to Mayor Derick Wenck and the Harrisburg City Council, the property owners demand that the city audit and then refile the tax bills by April 1.

“The lack of communication and inconsistent application by the city throughout this process is unacceptable,” the notice said. “Changing the tax formula from street frontage to total lot square footage without prior explanation is not only disappointing but makes it very difficult to manage a business.”

Wenck could not immediately be reached.

City Manager Andrew Pietrus, who was also on the notice, said he had not read it when contacted by The Dakota Scout Wednesday.
