Group sending reinforcement to Capitol to defend South Dakota’s initiated measure rules

A newly-formed political organization will oppose legislative attempts to alter South Dakota’s ballot initiative process.

The Voter Defense Association of South Dakota, established this spring with the Secretary of State’s Office, will formally launch next week. Its listed president, Matthew Schweich, told The Dakota Scout Wednesday when contacted about the state filing that the association will be a permanent lobby in Pierre against efforts to modify South Dakota’s initiated measure laws, which he says have been under assault by state lawmakers over the last decade.
